Great Britain’s disability shooting squad have returned from the latest shooting world cup with a gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
The squad travelled to Antalya in Turkey for the world cup competition, which took place between April 26 and 30 and were up against competition from 14 countries.
Britain’s mixed team of Nathan Milgate (Herne Bay, Kent), Matt Skelhon (Stilton, Cambs) and Deanna Coates (Yateley, Hants) took the gold for GB in the R3 10m Air Rifle prone SH1 mixed with a total combined score of 1792. Silver went to Russia with a score of 1780 and bronze went to Sweden, who scored 1761.
Kent’s Nathan Milgate also won a silver medal in the R1 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 men. He scored 580 in the qualification round to enter the finals in third place before shooting 103.7 to take the second place. Gold went to Werner Muller of Austria, with a total score of 687.3 and Fredrik Larsson of Sweden took bronze, scoring 683.1. Britain’s Matt Skelhon finished in 5th place, with a total score of 675.8.
There was a second silver for GB with Deanna Coates taking second place in the R2 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 women. She shot 390 in the qualification round and 100.8 in the finals. Elizabeth Kosmala of Australia won the gold (391 and 102) and Lotta Helsigner of Sweden took bronze (387 and 98.2).
The third silver for GB went to Matt Skelhon in the R3 10m Air Rifle Prone SH1 mixed. He scored 598 followed by 104.1 to beat GB team-mate Nathan Milgate into third place. Milgate picked up the bronze with his score of 598 and 103.4. Gold went to Slovakia’s Radoslav Malenovsky (598 and 105.8).
In the Falling Target Rifle SH1 mixed competition Matt Skelhon added to his gold and silver to take the bronze. He was beaten into third by Sweden’s Fredrick Larsson in silver and Austria’s Werner Muller with gold.
Hereford’s James Bevis competed in the R4 10m Air Rifle SH2 mixed and just missed the podium, finishing 4th with a total score of 695.1. He finished 6th in the R5 10m Air Rifle Prone SH2 mixed, scoring 595 and 105.8.
The full squad for the competition was Matt Skelhon, Nathan Milgate, Deanna Coates and James Bevis. They were supported by Head Coach Pasan Kularatne and Rifle Coach Robin Taylor. |
